fermt wasn't created in a boardroom or by software consultants. It was born from real frustration, real needs, and real apple trees on a small Danish island.

100 Apple Trees

It started with an unusual 30th birthday present: 100 apple trees. Not a watch, not a car—apple trees. And not just any location, but on Avernakø, a small island where my wife's family has deep roots.

Near the open sky and blue sea, those 100 apple trees now soak up sun and wind. What started as a birthday gift grew into Kirkeby Cider—a small-scale family cider production at our summerhouse.

In the old barn, we wash, chop, and press. That's really all there is to it. After waiting time and a bit of cane sugar, patience is tested and joy bubbles up. Eventually, this cider becomes something truly special.

The Problem Every Small Producer Faces

Running a small food or beverage production isn't just about making great products. There are regulations to follow, batches to track, ingredients to manage, and labels to print. Every country in the EU has its own requirements.

The existing software? Built for industrial-scale operations with teams of 50+. Expensive, complex, and frankly overkill when you're just trying to make cider in a barn with your family.

So we did what producers do: we improvised. Spreadsheets for batches. Post-it notes for ingredient counts. Word documents for labels. It worked, but barely. And it certainly didn't scale.

Built from Experience, Not Assumptions

fermt was born because we needed it ourselves. Not because we thought there was a market opportunity, but because tracking batch IDs on sticky notes while pressing 500 liters of apples is genuinely difficult.

We built exactly what we wished existed: simple batch tracking, ingredient management, compliance features, and label generation—all in one place. Nothing more, nothing less.

And because we're producers, not software salespeople, we added AI assistants. Not because it's trendy, but because saying "I brewed 50 liters of cider today" is infinitely easier than filling out forms when your hands smell like apples.
